After months of building, testing, killing features, and occasionally talking to actual plants for moral support, Leafwise is live on the App Store as of today. It's the first app from Superapps Studio, and it's the plant care tool we've been wanting to use ourselves.

The problem we kept running into

Between the three of us on the team, we've killed a combined total of... well, more plants than we'd like to admit. We tried the popular plant care apps. They all did roughly the same thing: you add a plant, the app sets a watering timer, and you get a push notification once a week. It felt like using a kitchen timer to manage a living thing.

The frustrating part was that we knew what was missing. We'd check the weather before deciding whether to water our balcony plants, but the app wouldn't. We'd notice a plant drying out faster after moving it to a sunnier spot, but the app didn't care where it was. The information existed; no one was connecting the dots.

What Leafwise actually does

Instead of a static schedule, Leafwise builds a living profile for each of your plants. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Weather-aware recommendations: Leafwise checks your local weather data, including recent rainfall, temperature, and humidity. If it rained on your balcony garden this weekend, it won't nag you to water on Monday.
  • Placement and light tracking: You tell Leafwise which window your plant faces and whether it's indoor or outdoor. A fiddle leaf fig by a south-facing window gets different advice than one in a north-facing hallway.
  • Care logging that actually matters: Every time you water, repot, or move a plant, Leafwise remembers. Over time, this history makes the recommendations more specific to how you actually garden.
  • Leafy, your garden AI: This is the part we're most excited about. Leafy is an AI companion that knows your plants by name. Ask it "why are my pothos leaves turning yellow?" and it won't give you a generic article. It'll consider that you watered twice last week and the plant sits in low light, then give you specific advice.
  • Photo-based plant diagnosis: Snap a picture of a problem leaf and Leafwise combines what it sees with what it knows about your plant's history and environment. Context changes everything when diagnosing plant issues.

What we deliberately left out

Leafwise doesn't have a social feed. There's no plant marketplace. You can't follow other gardeners or earn badges for streaks. We thought about some of these features and decided they'd make the app more engaging but not more useful, and useful is what we're optimizing for.

Every screen in Leafwise serves the same purpose: helping you understand what your plants need right now. If a feature doesn't directly support that, it doesn't make the cut.
